Despite three top-10 results, Donington represented Walker’s least successful event of the season while Sherwood enjoyed his best of the year, netting two podiums as they head for Snetterton this month (25-26 Jun).
Walker, who topped the timesheets in all three sessions last Thursday, attempted to take the lead from his second row start at the first corner in Race 1 but found himself shuffled down the pack. In the final five-minutes, he ran third, the top-three together, but dropped to fifth after running wide on the penultimate lap.
Front-row starting Alex stalled at the start of Race 2, ultimately getting away 13th and last, but recovered to ninth. Having started Race 3 from P11, Walker gained three places at the start and lay sixth after three-laps, dicing furiously, but had to be content with seventh after contact on the final lap. The results see Walker lose the championship lead for the first time since the opening event in early April.
Sherwood, racing on his “home” Donington track and quickest in a test on Friday, went wide in Race 1 and ran seventh at the back of a four-car train fighting over fourth, Jack grabbing sixth at the final corner – and fastest lap.
Despite gear selection issues in Race 2, he impressively moved into third early on and pressed for second place, denied the runner-up spot by less than 0.5s. Sherwood started the final race from seventh on the 13-car grid but was third by lap three and pressing for second, a position he grabbed on the ninth lap, losing out on the win by less than a second.
Eddie Ives, Team Owner & Manager
"Jack is constantly just striving to improve and the results showed at Donington.
"He did a fantastic job in both races.
"Luck didn’t go Alex’s way that weekend but I’m confident that he will bounce back for the next rounds at Snett later this month."
